Goya: Los Caprichos - Hawkesbury Regional Gallery

Though primarily a painter in his role as an artist to the King of Spain, in his own time Goya (1746 – 1828) Goya is known for creating images (etchings) critical of changes in the world around him. His later work records scenes of violence and destruction during the Napoleonic wars and openly comments on social injustice and senseless cruelty within Spanish society.
(building) the Exquisite Corpse
Held in conjunction with Goya: Los Caprichos, (building) the Exquisite Corpse takes as its inspiration  the parlour game of the same name invented by the Surrealists in 1925 and the imagery of the Goya. However unlike the bizarre two dimensional images produced by the Surrealists, where a folded piece of paper would be handed round to participants each participant adding to the picture, not knowing what had been drawn by the previous participant, our ‘images; are going to leap from the page and become larger than life forms in 3D
This program will include a curated exhibition and a space filled with materials for all gallery visitors to make their own unique monster/robot/fairy creations
